CSI // ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK
The EOU Alternative Spring Break Program (ASB), sponsored by the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), is an excellent opportunity for students to give back to the community while learning about different people, cultures, and customs. This program gives students an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others while growing as individuals themselves. ASB allows students to participate in a unique and memorable experience during their spring break.
This year, 7 students and 1 advisor are planning a trip to New Orleans to help in the Lower Ninth Ward, which has been hit badly by hurricanes. In 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit the Lower Ninth Ward causing many homes to be destroyed. These participates will spend a week in the Lower Ninth Ward helping with framing, insulating, sheet rocking, tiling, painting, and gardening.
EOU ASB History:
2012 ASB Trip: In 2012, 5 students and 1 advisor went to Portland for two days and did an immersion program. The program is associated with JOIN in Portland, which exists to support the efforts of homeless people to transition off streets and into permanent housing. Students on this trip were able to volunteer time at one of many agencies located in Portland, visit homeless camps, prepare and share a dinner with homeless individuals.
